What Every New or Expectant Parent Should Know!

This Article Written by Helen Williamson

Here's something that every Caring Parent will want to know...

I'm sure you're well aware of the healing and soothing benefits of massage. It is one of the easiest ways of maintaining good health and something that we all do naturally, - like instinctively rubbing an aching knee or gently stroking a troubled brow. Many aches, pains, headaches, insomnia, general tension and stress can all be alleviated with one simple instrument - OUR HANDS.

It has been clearly shown that children, brought up with families where parents and children touch each other, are generally healthier and better able to withstand pain and infection than children who have been deprived of touch. They also sleep much better and in general are much happier children.

In tests, it has been shown that babies receiving daily massage grow much more quickly and are calmer than those receiving little or no touching or caressing. This regular ritual of touhing and massage is not only enjoyable for both parent and child alike, it also creates an indissoluble bond between the parent and child that will continue throughout life.

Of course gentle massage is usually associated with Aromatherapy and the use of essential oils and although using certain essential oils in your daily baby massage routine can be of tremendous benefit, you must be very cautious in the oils used and should most definitely seek more professional advice or at least try to gain some more in-depth knowledge.

However, Aromatherapy Massage and the use of essential oils can have a profound effect in helping overcome many common ailments, but in this particular article about Baby Massage, I.d like to draw your attention to the young mother or .mother-to-be. and the subject of childbirth and pregnancy.

Normally the mention of essential oils and pregnancy is completely taboo, but treated with caution and in a professional way, Aromatherapy and essential oils can be of tremendous benefit.

Midwives at Glasgow's Southern General Hospital Maternity Unit have found that Aromatherapy is more effective than conventional painkillers when used to ease the agony of childbirth.

A recent audit undertaken in the maternity unit looked at the issue of post-natal perineal pain, to determine the effectiveness of different treatments, which range from simple analgesia, aromatherapy oils and ultrasound to hot and cold packs. More than 280 women were surveyed and of them, 110 were treated by aromatherapists. Out of those, 85 said that aromatherapy was the best treatment.

Aromatherapy is also shown to be more than 80% effective when used in a gel to treat painful haemorrhoids, a common complaint among women in the latter stages of pregnancy.

Great care must be taken when using essential oils in pregnancy. Several ante-natal and post-natal suggestions are well worth studying and when put into practice can make a tremendous difference.

Having trained Aromatherapists for many years at our Lifestyle Training Centre in Glasgow, UK. and included an in-depth session on Baby Massage, I can vouch from the feedback from these trained and practicing therapists that .The Power of Touch. is truly remarkable and something every parent should know about and indeed practice.

"The Power of Touch" - Baby Massage

With just the right information about The Power of Touch, you can forget about many of the annoying little problems of pregnancy and childbirth and you can comfortably settle down to choosing a name for your newborn baby.

Of course, since we appear to have dropped the practice of calling children after their parents or grandparents or a respected member of the family, choosing a suitable name can be a problem in itself.

However, it may just help to see the top 100 baby names over the last several years. It's quite enlightening:
